Workouts While Traveling: 7 Great Tips for Working Out on Your Transformational Travel

Do you love workouts while traveling? When I travel, I can’t take a break from my fitness routines because I love active adventures, and want to be ready for the next one, always. Plus, fitness is an important factor in a healthy life balance, and especially for transformational travel. At the same time, I hate packing extra weight. Running shoes or hiking boots can add extra bulk or sabotage my plans for traveling with the least luggage weight possible. I had to find a solution to this packing dilemma. Photo by Roberto Nickson (@g) on Unsplash

On my own travels as a luxury travel advisor, I found that maintaining your workout routine and fitness level and goals doesn’t have to be a hassle while traveling. Here are my top five tips for working out on the road while keeping your time- and packing space- to a minimum. Luxury hotels are keeping up with the demand for fitness and wellness and have moved far beyond just having a gym with exercise equipment, while fitness shoe and clothing manufacturers are creating better solutions to working out on-the-go.

Here are some of the ways you can maintain your own fitness and wellness while you travel.

Bring Your Own.

Your workout clothing should be easy to wash. Quick drying materials make all the difference when traveling. Not only are they wrinkle-free and lightweight, they make rising out and reusing a breeze. Gone are the days of cotton t-shirts; today’s synthetics are breathable, moisture-wicking , and best of all, easy to roll up small.

Tip: You can even pack less underwear- try ExOfficio so you can wash them at night and wear again the next morning.

Have It Provided for You.

Try a hotel that provides the workout clothes for you. With today’s emphasis on wellness in travel. Major upscale hotel chains like Fairmont, Westin and Hyatt offer both workout clothes and running shoes. Many hotels support the wellness of their guests by offering yoga mats, stretching bands and more.

Healthy Body, Healthy Mind.

For a full wellness experience, some hotels, such as the Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills offer guest rooms and suites with circadian lighting to elevate mood, guided meditations, water and air purification systems, a healthy selection of in-room meals. Wellness suites contain Peleton bikes, while wellness rooms come equipped with hand weights, exercise equipment and yoga mats.

Maintaining your fitness and wellness when you travel is easier than you think with fast-drying clothing, lightweight shoes, and the right places to stay. Share on X

Pack a lightweight pair of fitness shoes.

Many good brands also have that cool factor for fashionable casual street touring as well. See my blog about running and fitness shoes for travel.

Run to Tour

A great way to get to know the city you are visiting for work or leisure is to run. Your travel advisor and hotel concierge can give you the in-the-know details of best running paths, routes and trails in the area based on the length of time you want to run.

Some hotels, like the Ritz-Carton, Vienna provides a Running Concierge to join its guests on a circuit past some of the city’s most beautiful sights.

Get the App.

Take your workouts with you on your smartphone. Apps like AAptiv provide you a personal trainer experience and seemingly endless workouts to keep it fresh. Other apps provide challenges like abs or squats. And still others offer yoga and Pilates.

Don’t neglect tight muscles.

While your regular roller can be too cumbersome to pack, massage bars and sticks work well to release tension and ease pain and stiffness for plane and workout recovery.
